Cortaca

Cortaca is the sporting event that gets the most attention here at IC. It is the big football game between Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland and its popularity stems from an extreme rivalry between the two schools. This rivalry is so intense that distinct guidelines were printed directly onto our tickets, prohibiting clothing articles with profanity or Cortland slurs, offensive jeering directed at specific players, and any sort of physical violence, with the main headline being "KEEP THE RIVALRY ON THE FIELD." Of course, all of these rules were disregarded at some point or another (not by me, of course). Because of the rivalry between the schools, the game is incredibly hyped up and everyone comes out to see it, even people like me who don't tend to frequent the games. The stands were packed and everyone was so into the game, and I had such a great time. "Cortland is a safety school!" is one of the more creative and delicate things that I heard shouted at the game. By the time the game ended we were exhausted from yelling and cheering and were all ready to take a long nap.

We were all decked out in Ithaca attire, including IC face tattoos!

This is by far the funniest picture from Cortaca that was taken.

Happy Cortaca!

  1. I'm glad to hear that my daughter isn't the only football lunatic :-) Picturing you going crazy at a football is just as weird as picturing Ari. I guess college is a time to try all kinds of new things :-)
