iPhone Adventures
Recently I upgraded to a smartphone, an iPhone to be specific, and have been having a lot of fun with it. Although I'm not super into games and apps, I am very fond of my Merriam Webster Dictionary app, which includes the "Word of the Day." Although I am not too savvy with it yet, I have found some cool accessories for my iPhone.
A few weeks ago, I was inspired by the pressed flower phone cases on etsy (http://www.etsy.com/search?q=pressed%20flower%20iphone%20case&view_type=gallery&ship_to=US&ref=auto3) and decided to make my own, utilizing epoxy resin to coat the flowers.
Here is the finished product:
In addition to making myself a case, I got myself an $8 fisheye lens for my iphone which has provided a lot of amusement for me in the past few weeks. Here are some of my favorite (unattractive) pictures:

My AP Studio Art Portfolio
Hello all,
I know it's been a while since my last update, so I thought I'd show you all the main focus of my art-related pursuits for the last 8 months: my AP Studio Art Portfolio.

For those of you who don't know, the concentration section of the portfolio is where you explore once central idea or concept through 10-12 pieces of art.

An Honest Post
There is a simple reason as to why I haven't updated my blog in quite some time--and it is because I have been avoiding it.
Recently, as I've started being accepted to colleges and the impending question of what I want to do with my life becomes more daunting, I've been more afraid to share my art. Now this may seem a bit unrelated, but the truth of it lies in the fact that I've been reluctant to update my blog because I haven't wanted to deal with explaining how my college quest is going (and that's not because it's going badly, it's quite the opposite). But it's just not something that I really want to discuss over the internet, and I really haven't got any of it figured out yet.
But as I decided that it was time to face this fear and finally update about what's been going on, I was reminded about why I even started this blog. It was supposed to be a place where I pushed myself out of my comfort zone by sharing my art. The blog isn't about everything that's going on in my life, and isn't a place where I should be feeling obligated to talk about things that I don't want to. And so it's not going to be. I'm not going to be afraid of posting about my art because I don't want to have to address the other things going on in my life.
So once I came to this resolution, I decided it was time to face my blog again and post something. And to honor this occasion, I have put together a little video with the footage I took at the Boston Aquarium over winter break. You can watch it here: https://vimeo.com/59876628
In other artistic news though, my AP Portfolio is coming along quite well, and now that I've got my concentration decided, I will be sharing more of those images. The images of faces over nebula and chemical composition backgrounds are the images that are making up my concentration, and I will be posting more of them as they are completed.

The 2013 Sketchbook Project
Well folks, it's finally finished!
And it is an incredible relief. In all honesty, the last few months have been very difficult for me with trying to meet many deadlines and just trying to keep my head above water. With everything that I have been juggling, this project often felt like a chore, and I had a hard time setting aside time to work on it.
This was my second year doing the project, and at times I found that very intimidating. Knowing that I was making a video to share of my process and the completed sketchbook, it seemed like there was some sort of expectation in comparison to my book last year. After I finished my sketchbook, I watched the video that I made from the 2012 Sketchbook Project. It was kind of shocking to see how much I have grown as in my artistic pursuits. I feel like I have developed more of a defined style in my illustration.
In terms of the video process, a lot of the initial sketching and drawing portions were done during breaks at school and other times when I couldn't film it. The film that was captured, however, is sped up to where one minute of the raw footage is shown in one second in the video.
About a week ago, I wasn't sure that I would have my sketchbook finished to send off for the January 15th deadline and I felt quite defeated. But I am really glad that I was actually able to finish it, because I now have successfully participated in this project for two years. The sketchbooks that I have made are not about exploring a specific idea or anything--instead they are about creating small pieces of art that might happen to inspire some larger scale pieces in the future.

A Few New Faces
Hey everyone,
I'm busy trying to finish my Sketchbook Project before the deadline, as well as finishing some scholarship essays, and preparing to go out of town, so this is going to be a short update. I just wanted to share a few of the art pieces that I've done over my break thus far.
