Succulent Terrariums

While I was home for Winter Break, I became very enchanted with plant terrariums and decided to make some, despite it being difficult to find plants in January. I found two glass containers at Savers and already had the little teapot and decided to use them to make terrariums.

I brought the little teapot terrarium with me back to college, and it's alive and doing well. It is so nice to have a little living plant up in my room!

*Update: my mom just sent me a picture of one of my plants that I left at home. So pretty!

This Ithaca Weather...

All I can say is that I am very thankful for my parka, boots, wool socks, and themasilk long underwear.

Back in the Swing of Things

I have been back at school for a little while and am getting settled into my new classes as well as trying to survive in the extremely cold weather.

This semester, I am taking the following classes:

  • Introduction to Field Production (in this class we get to work with the nice video cameras, which I am very excited about)
  • Introduction to Journalism
  • World Archaeology
  • Academic Writing
Although this is only four classes, my two introduction classes are 4 credit hour classes with a lot of out of class time commitments, and with my FLEFF fellowship, my courses add up to 15 credit hours. Initially I had planned on taking an art history course as well, but after getting a sense of all of my courses, I decided I would take it next year when I could really enjoy it and not be too worried about being overwhelmed and taking 18 credit hours.

I got a new planner for the year of 2014 and I am absolutely in love with it, so I thought I would share it with you all. It's themed from the book The Little Prince, which I read in my 11th grade french class and wrote an 5 paragraph essay about in French. It is probably one of my favorite assignments that I did while in high school. I love the story of The Little Prince, as well as all of the great discussions that I've had about the meaning of the story. When I saw this Little Prince planner, I absolutely fell in love with it.

Also, in case you all haven't noticed, I have been posting on my blog a bit more frequently, and hope to keep doing so throughout my semester. Stay tuned for (hopefully) regular updates!

Happy 2014, everyone!

Winter Break

I had a lovely time being home, and it was so nice to see some New Mexico scenery as well. I went on many adventures and although I didn't document very many of them, I was able to put together a little video of footage that I collected while with my family.

I also got my tie business up and running again with a lot of new inventory, as well as started an accompanying Facebook page. I would love it if you all would share both the Facebook page and my Etsy store around.

I am happy to be back at school and getting into new classes, and I intend to bring this blog along with me for the journey of the upcoming semester!

The Sketchbook Project 2014

It's that time of year again… My 2014 Sketchbook Project has been mailed off!

For anyone new to my blog, the Sketchbook Project is an art experience in which you sign up and are sent a sketchbook, fill it out by a deadline, and then mail it back at which point it will go on tour around the world or select regions for certain projects before going into permanent residence at the Brooklyn Library of Art.

This is the third year that I have participated in the Sketchbook Project and I love it so much, and I greatly recommend it to anyone! Regardless of if you are an artist or not, they encourage submissions from anyone and everyone! If you're interested in getting involved, they are currently running a special winter project, with a deadline in 2015. Here is a link to check that project out if anyone is interested: http://www.sketchbookproject.com/participate

This year, I had my sketchbook shipped back to my house so I could have it to work on while I was on winter break. This gave me about two and a half weeks to work on it, so I chose to rebind it to have fewer pages for me to tackle. While I'm at school, I don't have a lot of time to do art, but I do actively collect any materials that catch my eye for collage, so I brought my envelope of collected materials home to use on this sketchbook. My sketchbook is collaged cut outs with watercolors and pop-up pages.

This is the first year that I seriously considered not sending my sketchbook back because I love this book so much, and am so happy with how it all turned out.

My sketchbook theme is "Say Words Out Loud"

In keeping with my Sketchbook Project traditions, I have created a little video showing a bit of my process as well as the final product. Some of the pages are pop-up, which I think can be seen a bit easier in the video. Enjoy!
